About the Tom Joyner Foundation:

The Tom Joyner Foundation was founded in 1998 as the brainchild of nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner. The mission of the Foundation is to support historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with scholarships, endowments and capacity-building enhancements.

The Foundation has provided necessary support to every HBCU in its 13-year history to help sustain and preserve the legacies of these valuable institutions. Through fundraising and donor development initiatives, $60 million has been raised to support more than 20,000 students attending HBCUs. Additionally, the Foundation has recommended internships, offered matching grant support, and career development to deserving students.

Corporate partnerships such as the Allstate/Tom Joyner Foundation Scholarship have resulted in the development of programs to support HBCUs and their students.

This scholarship definitely gives me hope because it means that they feel I'm worthy of the investment, and it makes me grateful and hopeful for my future.

Desharee Williams, Bethune-Cookman University

This gave me a reason to keep going and keep fighting to better myself, the community and the world in general.

Christopher Davis, Philander Smith College

I'm really thankful for the scholarship because I have a lot of loans, so it will help me in the future as well. I won't have as much to pay back on student loans once I graduate.

Markecia Lyons, Alcorn State University

[The scholarship's] been such a huge help for me. Spelman is not cheap and it's great to have foundations and companies that are truly interested in your education and making an investment towards your career. People who don't even know you but are interested in taking a chance on someone to work towards a better future. It's a great opportunity for me to pursue my goals. . . . This scholarship really means the world to me.

Tasha Alexis, Spelman College
